ASTANGA YOGA
– Part II
 (Article # : DRSAUSA_September2006)

In yoga sadhana[practice], Brahmacharya is an indispensable part. Brahmacharya is a Sanskrit word. It has got many inner meanings. By deeds, by words, no one should think or not to do any type of actions for sexual activities are called brahmacharya. In broader sense, any thought about woman, remembrance, discussion, friendship with opposite sex or even any bad books on sex is to be avoided in all circumstances and these are essential parts of brahmacharya. Passion is not the main aspect of life as the animal is also having a controlled passion. Married man may leave in this world with Brahmacharya or controlled life. The relation with wife is a natural process of nature. In ancient time Yogi’s [saints] used to get married and they had children too but they were Brahma chary. Here, brahmacharya means their action, thinking, activities, penance, austerity were so systematic with accuracy of the rule of nature that they never used think anything other than Infinite or God. The control of every thing in their life was so unique for them and for the same reason; saints were considered as Brahma chary.
In Tatriya Upanishad, “ Satyam Vada. Dharmam Chara. Prajatantum ma bawyachetatsihi” meaning is; speak truth. Do religious work but you should have a son for the continuation of your family.

Next is Aparigraha. In any condition of life, no one should accept of any type of charity or gift from any body or from any institution. Charity, gift or any type of acceptance in cash or kind brings forth weakness in body, mind; resist in progress of life, loosing self- confidence and becomes gradually dependent physically and mentally.
There are two qualities of the points written above. First, a man will become self sufficient and independent. The second reason is renunciation. The first step may be explained as, in worldly affairs and the second step is a process towards the spirituality.
